## What it is

Copper tripeptide-1, commonly known as GHK-Cu, is a naturally occurring complex of the human tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine (GHK) bound to a copper(II) ion. GHK is present in human plasma, saliva, and urine, where its concentration declines with age, and it has a high affinity for copper, forming the GHK-Cu chelate. In skin, the complex is reported to act as a signal for tissue remodeling and repair—stimulating synthesis of collagen, elastin, and glycosaminoglycans while modulating matrix metalloproteinases—and it also has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity.

## Its role in longevity

Reviews and laboratory studies indicate GHK-Cu can stimulate collagen and elastin production, support wound healing, and reduce inflammation and oxidative stress. However, rigorous human evidence is thin: no adequate placebo-controlled trials of GHK-Cu alone for photoaging or wrinkles exist, and the best controlled human study—a randomized split-face trial after laser resurfacing—found no objective benefit over control for redness, wrinkles, or skin quality, though patients reported higher satisfaction. An irradiated-wound animal model likewise found no benefit over control. Poor skin penetration is a recognized bottleneck, and recent formulation science using liposomal encapsulation aims to improve delivery. Dermatologists generally regard it as a supportive rather than transformative anti-aging ingredient, with human cosmetic efficacy unproven. This evidence describes the GHK and GHK-Cu compound and its mechanisms, not this specific commercial serum.
