## Methods

This systematic review and meta-analysis included randomized clinical trials involving hypertensive patients over 18 years old, of both sexes, with or without comorbidity or hypertensive medication. Studies compared groups performing DGSB and/or NDGSB with control conditions. The primary outcomes were systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) values after interventions. A random effect model was used for quantitative analysis.

## Results

Twenty-two studies with 17,214 participants were included. DGSB did not significantly reduce SBP or DBP compared to usual care. For SBP, the mean difference was -2.13 mmHg (288 individuals), and for DBP, it was -0.90 mmHg (288 individuals). SBP variations showed a mean difference of -2.42 (443 individuals), and DBP variations showed a mean difference of -1.67 (443 individuals). Considerable heterogeneity was observed across studies.

## Conclusion

Device-guided slow breathing (DGSB) did not reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Nondevice-guided slow breathing (NDGSB) is suggested as a potential future research direction.
